System Metal Industries Limited

System Metal Industries Limited (SMIL) was incorporated in 1976 by late Senator Victor U. Akan and Chief Dr. Akua B. U. Akan. They were the founding directors and shareholders. The company built its factory in Calabar in 1977/1978. It was commissioned and declared open by the then State Commissioner of Industries, Dr. Fidelis Anjou and began the manufacture of aluminium and steel  roofing sheets, cladding and accessories in 1978.

Exploiting its success in Calabar, the company built the Abuja factory in 1982. It was declared open and commissioned by the then Vice President, Dr Alex Ekwueme. At the time it was the only roofing company in Abuja. The company has  been involved in many projects in Abuja and it could be said without any bias then, that Abuja was roofed by System Metal Industries Limited. The company suffered a major disaster when it lost to death its founding Chairman -  Senator Victor U. Akan in 1988. Management of the company was taken over by the surviving founding director - Chief Dr. Akua B. U. Akan.

Management

The company went through turbulent times but stabilized and went on to diversify into the manufacture of  top quality aluminium cookware - pots and pans in 1997. The new production line was declared open and commissioned by His Eminence, Dr Sunday K. Mbang, Prelate of the Methodist Church Nigeria in 1997 and immediately went into production. The products have been very well received in the market. 

In 2001 the family of late Senator Victor Akan requested and received full control and ownership of our Abuja factory and changed its name, while the family of Dr. Akua B. U. Akan maintained control and ownership of the Calabar factory.

Quality Production

SMIL has a production capacity of 36 metric tones of aluminium per day (each to cover 19000 m² with 0.55mm aluminium) in its factory at Calabar. This capacity which is greater than that of competitors which ensures that SMIL is always able to meet your needs - big or small.

We produce long span aluminium Roofing of various gauges; .45mm, .55mm and .70mm in all the colors of the rainbow.

System Metal Industries Limited offers top quality sheets for roofing and cladding. The aluminium sheets are supplied either in stucco (white) mill or any color of your choice, oven baked .

We also produce high quality aluminium Pots and Pans which in today's markets are rated as the finest and the best in Nigeria.

SMIL has the most efficient corrugating mills and machines in the country, ensuring accurate and efficient production to meet your needs. The location of offices around Nigeria ensures  fast delivery of our aluminium cookware and long span aluminium roofing sheets.

Installation

Installation of roofs is a specialized aspect of building construction. If not properly done even when using best quality materials, leakage can occur. SMIL provides excellent roofing installation at moderate cost and with minimum waste.
